The Problem

Being greener is becoming a larger part of everyone’s lives as reporting on global warming has become more and more mainstream as of the last few years. Due to this many companies and shops are taking steps to mitigate waste in their products and packaging, this includes the coffee industry with packaging for milks now in cardboard when once were plastic and many other changes.
The real issue is mainly to be tackled by countries, not individuals, but we can all play a part to reduce the single use things we use, so this week we’ll cover the quick pros and cons of the main materials used in reusable coffee cups so you can make the best decision when buying a cup for daily use. So many of us have a take out coffee every day that just the UK uses roughly 7 million paper cups everyday! Lets reduce that.
Plastic

Pros
Can’t break easily
Usually very heat resistant
Cons
Not easy to recycle
Can hold bad smells and flavours over time
Stainless Steel

Pros
Basically can’t break
Incredibly heat resistant, always used in flasks
The most recyclable metal on earth!
Cons
Can hold bad smells and flavours over time
looks abit bland but you could always add stickers!
Can give off a metallic taste
Glass

Pros
Looks nice and clean (when well maintained)
One of the most sustainable materials on the planet!
Never holds a smell overtime so can always be good as new
Cons
Very easy to break so best not be clumsy
Not super heat resistant so best get double walled or a heat sleeve
Ceramic

Pros
Looks super cosy and you can get really nicely glazed ones!
Quite heat resistant
Doesn’t hold any smell or flavours over time
Environmentally friendly to produce
Cons
This too is easy to break so best not be clumsy!
No matter what material you choose, a reusable cup is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment and can even save you some money as some cafes reduce the price if you bring your own cup, saving the planet and some coins!
I hope you’ve found this helpful on picking a take out cup for the future, honestly I'd go glass or ceramic any day of the week but I not trying to keep coffee hot for ages, so not the best fit for all. have a great week and some even better coffees!
The ceramic cups isn’t a sponsorship but It looked super nice so had to include it!
