Weekly Wake-up

Vitamins and caffeine in one!
So, this week is all about a coffee trend from a little while ago that was combining orange juice with espresso, but firstly let’s cover the use of citrus in coffee seen in more traditional cases.
The Romano

As we’ve covered before, the Espresso Romano is a variation of espresso (single or double) simply served with a slice of lemon which was to be squeezed into the shot, this added citrus was originally thought to act like a palate cleanser but will mainly just add a refreshing lemon flavour.
Lemons are also known as a very healthy fruit overall with being high in Vitamin C and helping to reduce many different health risks, so this addition to your morning coffee feels to be a no brainer. (Obviously all in moderation that is)
The Overview

This is the drink in question, essentially just espresso poured on top of chilled orange juice with, or without bits. Granted its abit weird but lets cover what it tastes like and what we suggest to use when making it!
Overall this drink is still it’s two components, so you can expect to taste a strong coffee flavour and the tang of orange juice but it does come down to what ingredients we use specifically. For an example if using orange juice from off the shelf then it will likely be highly processed and have a very specific taste which isn’t ideal.
This is the same for the espresso as arguably light roasted beans or blends make for a more sour flavour than darker roasts, so you wouldn’t want to pair sour with sour/ tangy when drinking your morning coffee.
The Recipe

Firstly put some ice in the glass you want to use.
next up, either buy some freshly squeezed orange juice, like from those machines you see that squeeze the juice right in front of you, or go ahead and get your hands zesty by squeezing some oranges and collecting the juice into your glass.
Extract a double espresso, (We would recommend a medium to dark roast, the darker roast counters the sweetness of the juice and bring little to no acidity) A 1:2 espresso recipe is good to use.
Lastly, slowly pour the espresso on top of the orange juice, if you aim the pour for an ice cube it will form a more separate layer, perfect for a cool photo to post on insta!
Grab a straw and enjoy!
I hope you enjoyed the read this week, and with warmer weather approaching now may be the best time to try this recipe! Hope you have a great week and some even better coffees.
