The recipe

Requirements:

  • 1 Glass

  • Milk - Whole or high fat content milk

  • Espresso

  • So first off your gonna want to grab a short glass and pop it in the fridge, leave it in there for a while so its chilled.

  • Once your glass is ready, pour the milk into the glass, roughly about 120/150ml but you can make any size drink you’d like.

  • Once your espresso is tamped and locked in, raise the glass up to the spouts of the group handle so there almost touching the surface of the milk. This allows the espresso to sit on top of the milk

A quick run down on why to try this new drink

This “dirty coffee” has been a popular option over in Asia for a while now but has recently become more of a trend in the west. All recipes online are using either full fat milk or even some special milks that have a higher fat content than usual, I personally use oat milk so feel free to use any milk you like but do bare in mind that the fatter the milk the more separated the espresso and milk will be.

The taste

This coffee is similar to that of an ice latte but you wont be mixing it, the flavour comes from having the espresso and milk as completely separate layers, as you sip you’ll experience the hot espresso and the cold milk at the same time.

This drink allows people to try espresso with a much smoother aftertaste as the milk makes for a more mellow drink. You can make this with any roast of coffee but personally I find darker roasts fit this super well as a contrast to the cool milk.

Alright that’s everything! Hope you’ve enjoyed and maybe try this recipe at home or even try find a café that is making this new trend. Have a great week and some even better coffees!
